Betty Jean Shafer, 78 passed at away at her home in Copan, Oklahoma on Saturday, February 12th 2022. Graveside services will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, Kansas on Friday, February 18th at 2:00 PM.
Betty was born on December 2, 1943 in Caney, Kansas to George and Mrytle (Thomison) Shafer. Betty was raised in the Caney area and attended the Caney Elementary school but due to her disability she stopped attending and continued her education at home. Betty was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Caney. In 1999, Betty moved to Copan, Oklahoma to live with her niece, Barbara Forbes. Through the years, Betty and Barbara made several trips to Florida, Texas and yearly trips to Branson. Betty loved to go camping, travel, and watch her favorite television shows, the Waltons and the Little House on the Prairie. Most of all Betty loved to spend time with her family, she truly adored the holidays and family gatherings. She also loved to attend church and church events.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Myrtle Shafer, brother, Bob Shafer and sister, Evelyn Miller.
Betty’s memory will carry on with her brother, Tom and wife Linda Shafer of Pryor, OK and her dear niece Barbra and husband Jeff Forbes who took such wonderful care of Betty through the years and numerous other nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions can be made in Betty’s name to the Northpoint Assembly of God Church in Dewey, Oklahoma.
