Edgar Coots

Lifelong Caney resident, Edgar "Sonny" Eugene Coots, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 12, 2018. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Funeral services will be held at Tyro Christian Church on Monday, November 26th at 2:00pm with burial following immediately after at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, Kansas.

Edgar "Sonny" Eugene Coots was born in Fredonia, Kansas on November 27, 1938 to Ralph and Opal (Smith) Coots. Sonny, as he was known to many, grew up and attended the Caney school system. Sonny married Linda Allison on June 1, 1961 in Caney, Kansas. Through the years, Sonny and Linda welcomed 4 children. Sonny developed a strong work ethic as a young man that carried over into his adult life. He was known to work 2 jobs and work 7 days a week. Sonny worked at Bob Montgomery's, Hoke's Filling Station, City of Caney, and 30 years before retiring at TRW. In addition to working multiple jobs, Sonny was a 25-year member of the Caney Volunteer Fire Department. Even with his busy work schedule, Sonny always made time for his family and church. He loved spending his time hunting, visiting his son's cabin, attending Tyro Christian Church, and attending JOY Group. Most of all he loved and cherish the time he spent with his family and boys. Sonny will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Laricia Marie Coots, parents, Ralph Coots and Opal Roberds, and brothers, Gary Coots, and James Roberds.

Those left to cherish Sonny's memory, wife, Linda Coots of Caney, KS, sons, Edgar and wife Judy of Copan, OK, Mark and wife Jan of Independence, KS, Alan and wife April Coots of Caney, KS, sisters, Carolyn Hawthorne of Caney, KS, Stella Rosewicz of Caney, KS, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that a memorial contribution be made in Sonny's name to the JOY Group at Tyro Christian Church. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
