George Ross

George "Junior" Dean Ross, Jr. 58, of Pacific, Washington, formerly of Caney, Kansas, passed away November 21, 2016 at his home.
George was born on August 26, 1958 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Wanda and George Ross, Sr. He attended elementary school in Havana and high school at Caney Valley High School where he graduated in 1976. While at CVHS, he was a standout athlete in football, basketball and golf. During his junior year football season, Junior earned Second Team All-State honors. During his senior year of football, he was named Touchdown Magazine's Player of the Week, was named to the All-Area Super Eleven First Team as well as All-State First Team. Junior was the first person in CVHS history to ever score 1,000 points in basketball, ending his basketball career with 1,186 as well as 1,022 rebounds - both school records at the time. During that season, he was named to the Second Team All-Area Team. His senior year of golf, Junior and his brother Steve helped lead the Bullpups to a second-place finish in the State tournament where Junior shot a 66 during a round including a 31 on the back nine.
After high school, Junior signed to play football at Coffeyville Community College but briefly attended Kansas State University before entering the workforce in the aerospace industry in 1979 where he worked for nearly 20 years.
Junior married Pamela Cunningham on January 24, 1985 in Wichita, Kansas, they later divorced. On June 4, 1986, they welcomed their first daughter Valerie Jean Ross in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Soon after on May 19, 1987, their second daughter Georgette Darlene Ross was born in Wichita, Kansas.
Junior was an avid sports fan and music lover. It can be said that his one true love was the Green Bay Packers. A fan his entire life, he greatly enjoyed rubbing their success in to his friends and family. Being blessed with 5 grandchildren, he loved watching highlights and following along in their success on the fields and wrestling mat. Of course, he credited their success to his wonderful athletic genes. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Junior is survived by his mother, Wanda Ross of Pacific, Washington; brother, Stephen Ross and nephew Jacob Ross of Kent, Washington; Daughter, Valerie (Ross) Windsor, her husband Devin Windsor and grandchildren Landon and Ava Windsor of Cherryvale, Kansas; and Daughter, Georgette Ross and grandchildren Keegan, Ethan and Jocelynn Bryant of Fredonia, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father, George Ross, Sr.
A visitation will take place from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, December 1 at Potts Chapel located at 107 N. State in Caney, Kansas. Funeral services will take place at 10 am on Friday, December 2 at First Assembly of God Church located at 301 N. McGee St. in Caney, Kansas. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery located at 408 N. Ridgeway St. in Caney, Kansas.
