Gerald ‘Jerry' Williams, 79, Caney, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016, at his home, following a difficult struggle with cancer.
Gerald Henry Williams was born January 15, 1937, in Seminole, Oklahoma, the second of two children to John Henry Williams and Iva Ruth Reynolds.
Jerry was raised in Seminole, attended schools there, graduating high school in 1955. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy on August 26, 1955, receiving training as an Electricians Mate. He retired from the Navy in 1975 at the rank of Chief Electricians Mate.
On December 10, 1965, at Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, IL he married the love of his life, Nancy Shaw, a Navy legal clerk from Caney, Kansas. Nancy left the Navy in 1967 to begin raising their children, Sherry Jo and Gerald Jr.
When Jerry retired from the Navy he moved to Caney and began working for the Caney Police Department. He later worked for the Montgomery County, Kansas, retiring in 2004 as Under Sheriff.
Jerry enjoyed his church, his family, being outside, and especially being with his grandchildren. Jerry will be best remembered for his love of his family. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors blessed by his memory are his wife, Nancy, of the home; daughter Sherry and husband Randy Tayrien of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; grandsons Jarrod and Seth Tayrien, Bartlesville, and granddaughters Holly Bates and Cody Chisholm, two great grand daughters Madison and Page, all of Oklahoma. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, son Gerald Jr, sister Nancy Spear.
Following Jerry's wishes cremation has taken place under the care of Potts Chapel Funeral Home, Caney. Celebration of Life service will be at 1:00pm, Friday, June 17, 2016, at Tyro Christian Church with Evangelist David Bycroft officiating. Graveside service with military rites will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery, Caney.
The family has suggested memorials designated in memory of Jerry Williams be given to the Tyro Christian Church, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and Heartland Vietnam Veterans. Donations can be left with Potts Chapel Funeral Home, Caney. Online condolences can be shared at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
