Helen Louise Smith age 94, of Caney, passed away on March 7, 2017 at her home.
Helen was born on November 7, 1922 in Caney to Elmer and Lora (Brown) Barnett. She attended and graduated from Bowring High School in Bowring, OK. She then continued her education at Bartlesville Business College. Helen was united in marriage to Frank E Smith April 7, 1944, the couple was blessed with a son, Anthony. Helen found employment with National Oil Field Supply and then the Coffeyville SRS office where she devoted over 30 years of service. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a member of the Alter Society. Helen enjoyed embroidering, traveling, fishing, and most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was always willing to lend a hand to anybody in need, one of the most selfless people you would meet.
Those left to cherish her memory are, her son; Anthony Smith his wife Peggy, grandchildren; Laura Brooks her husband Edgar, Roger Smith, Adam Smith his wife Brandi, and Stacy Smith, great-grandchildren; Cylas Brooks, Lyric Brooks, Christian Franklin her husband Ross, Candace Smith, Dannie Miller, and Jessica Smith, great-great-grandchildren; Gauge Franklin and Kaydence Franklin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years, brother, Bill Barrett, sister, Ruth Lowry, and grandson Matt Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 1:00pm at Potts Chapel of Caney with Chaplain Keith Springer of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating. Friends are invited to sign the register and greet the family on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Chapel. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers be made payable to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and they may be left in care of the Chapel.
