Ivan Lumley, 92, of Caney, Kansas, formerly of Peru, Kansas, was reunited with his beloved wife, Naomi, on Sunday, October 5, 2014, from Jane Phillips Hospital, Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Ivan Francis Lumley was born May 25, 1922, in Peru, Kansas, the fifth of ten children to James Daniel Lumley and Chloe Farner Lumley. He grew up in Peru, attended schools there, and graduated from Peru high school in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served as an Ammunition Bearer during WWII, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during combat operations. He was later honorably discharged.
In 1947, Ivan was united in marriage to Naomi Lee Deal, at Caney. To this union was born five children: Larry, Nancy, Richard, Daniel, and Dennis. After the war and until his retirement, he was a lifelong farmerrancher in the Peru area.
To say that Ivan enjoyed his dog trading, coon hunting, and telling stories and jokes would be an understatement. He will also be remembered for his gardening and in later years raising chickens and guineas of all colors.
Blessed by his memory are his surviving loved ones, sons Larry Lumley and wife Kay of Springfield, Missouri, Richard Lumley and wife Laura of Peru, Kansas, Daniel Lumley and Laura of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Dennis Lumley of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and daughter Nancy and husband Mostafa of Sunnyvale, California. Also sharing his memory are six grandchildren, eleven greatgrandchildren, four greatgreatgrandchildren, two sisters, Aletha Jesseph and Cleotha Fulk, and a host of cousins.
