Jerry Leroy Hockett, 73, of Caney, passed away at home on Wednesday October, 26th.
Jerry was born on April 18th, 1949 in Dumas, TX to Delbert Leroy Hockett and Margaret Elizabeth (Soles) Hockett – Ross. The family relocated to Oklahoma and later moved to Caney, KS where Jerry attended Caney Valley High School. In 1967 he joined the U.S. Army, honorably serving his country during the Vietnam War. He married the love of his life Rose Ann Cook in 1976, they were married for over 46 years. He loved to work on and restore classic cars, and rarely missed a sporting event any of his children or grandchildren participated in. He was a devoted husband that will always be remembered for his sense of humor, and how he cared for his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Ann Hockett; his daughter Jennifer Sexton, her husband Dan, and her two sons Brendan and Daniel; his two sons Jerry Hockett Jr., his wife Nicole, and his children Gabriel and Gracie; and Josh Hockett, his wife Megan, and his children Sophia and Jack; two sisters, Christine Ethel Cranor and her husband Earnie; and Deborah “Debby” Williams and her husband Paul.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Caroline Lucille Hockett, and his brothers Ray “Buster” Ross and Bobby Joe Ross.
A celebration of life will take place at Amazing Grace Community Church (206 N. Vine St.) in Caney on Saturday, November 5th, at 11am.
In lieu of flowers or contributions, the family asks that you consider supporting your local Christmas Angel Tree program this holiday season. Every year, Jerry enjoyed supporting the program and made sure that no local children would experience a Christmas without gifts.
