Beloved mother, friend and educator, Jimmye Lea Barton, 78, passed away at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Monday, May 9th, 2022.
Jimmye was welcomed into this world, the only child of James L. Moore Jr. and Evelyn Ruth (Hayden) Moore on May 20, 1943, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Jimmye graduated from Porum Oklahoma High School in 1961. After graduation, Jimmye married Kendall Barton in Porum, Oklahoma in 1962. Through the years the two welcomed two daughters, Cindy, and Dana. The two later divorced. Jimmye then continued her education attending Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, earning a double major bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Business Education in 1965. After graduation, Jimmye moved to Caney to fulfill her lifelong calling. She began teaching at the Caney Valley Elementary School in 1965. She taught for 2 years in the elementary level and then transferred to the high school to teach business education. For 41 years, Jimmye helped, taught, and cared for numerous students. In 2006, she retired from teaching, but retirement didn’t keep Jimmye away from helping the children and the community of Caney. She could be found working as a substitute, working the ticket booths at home games, and working the voting booths at all the elections.
Jimmye was a member of the United Methodist Church, The Eastern Star, and the garden club. During her spare time, she loved to tend to her garden, crochet, quilt, play golf, play fast pitch softball and play cards with her posse. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandsons, never missing one of their activities.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James Jr. and Evelyn Moore.
Her memory will live on with her daughters, Cindy and husband Justin Todd of Havana, and Dana Barton of Caney, grandsons, Jake Allen Todd and wife Kylie and Chance Lowery Todd, and a great grandchild making their appearance in August. The family will greet friends at a visitation at Potts Chapel on Sunday, May 15th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will take place on Monday, May 16th at 10:00 am at Potts Chapel with interment immediately following at Sunnyside Cemetery.
