CANEY, KS
Larry Mason, 69, of Caney, formerly of Tyro, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at St John's Hospital, Tulsa, after a difficult struggle with his heart.
Larry Dean Mason was born, December 1, 1946, in Coffeyville, Kansas the first of three children born to Richard Emery Mason and Gladys Ruth [[]Doss] Mason: Larry, Cheryle, and Rick. He was raised in the Tyro area, attending schools in Tyro, before attending high school in Caney, graduating in 1965.
He married Debra Finney on May 15, 1982. To this union was born three (3) children: Paula, Jonathan, and Valerie. Larry and Debra raised their children in the Tyro and Caney areas.
Larry was first employed at KOPCO, Caney, Robinson Packers, Coffeyville, then for the railroad, retiring as a Track Man for Union Pacific after 26+plus years.
In his younger years, Larry enjoyed softball, hunting, and fishing. He always liked feeding the hummingbirds, and lawn mowing. He enjoyed OU football, Kansas State and Celtics Basketball, and Dodgers Baseball. Most of all he enjoyed doting on his family. He will be best remembered as loving and caring.
Larry was affiliated with the Lodge of Odd Fellows at Tyro, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Labor Union, and was a member of the Cornerstone Church in Caney.
Survivors blessed by his memory are his wife, Debra, of the home, daughter Paula (John) Schenk of Independence, son Jonathan (Chloe) of Wichita, daughter Val (Tony) Hurd, of Caney; four grandchildren - Gabe, Regan, Halo, Garrett; sister Cheryle (Jon) Jabben of Tyro, Niece Kylee Stallsmith and Nephew Josh Jabben; and Ozzie, his companion Schnauzer. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Rick.
Visitation service is scheduled for Friday, August 26, 2016, from 5-to-8pm at the Tyro Christian Church. Celebration of Life Services are scheduled for Saturday, August 27, 2016, 1:00pm at Tyro Christian Church, with Brad Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Harrisonville Cemetery, north of Tyro. Family suggests memorial donations to Cornerstone Church of Caney, or to the donors choice specified in memory of Larry Mason. Online condolences can be shared at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
